With spaces is the raw length of your text including spaces, newlines, punctuation and emoji. Without spaces strips all whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines) before counting. The counter operates on UTF-16 code units, which is what Twitter, most SMS gateways and most CMSes use under the hood.
